A History Of Vibrators

Posted in General  by avinash pandey

The Electrical Vibrator has existed ever since the late 1800’s, it was invented by Kelsey Stinner to treat what was then believed of as an illness. It was identified then as “female hysteria” and “congestion of the genitalia”. This condition comprised of a volume of grievances in adult women, such as anxiety, sleeplessness, irritability, nervousness, erotic fantasies, and moisture inside the vagina. Physicians had been treating women for centuries with these complaints by conducting what is presently recognized as masturbation. Masturbation was seen as a taboo, and women were cautioned against it, and regarded this method of massage was the task for doctors and husbands. This kind of vulvular stimulation was viewed as not associated to sex, as the opinion was that a woman’s sexual pleasure necessitated penetration. The doctors found this massage time consuming and hard work, and wished to accelerate the routine so they could attend to more patients. After the creation of electric vibrators doctors could now cure women of their anxiety rapidly, and made a requirement for cost effective, less bulky machines that women could operate at home.

Then a retail model of vibrator was produced in 1902 which was the fifth domestic appliance to be electrified, following appliances like the toaster and kettle, and was also made nearly 10 years previous to the iron and vacuum cleaner. Their acceptance increased greatly in homes and were were advertised in many magazines of the time, and pronounced to be cures for all types of ailments. That was until the 1920’s when they began to feature in pornography which related the vibrator with sex, and thus was unacceptable for society. They were still available although difficult to find, but labelled as “neck massagers” and sold via mail order catalogues.

Due to awareness of HIV and sexual health in the 1980’s, Sex Toys and Vibrators once again became more acceptable in mainstream public. Vibrators are now viewed as a practice of safe sex as well as a part of most female’s sex lives. The 80’s also saw Adult Stores sprouting up in almost every city. The style of many vibrators of the day was fairly basic and typically phallic shaped. At first Adult Shops were back street kinds of stores which which has emerged as classy stores stocking designer adult products. Vibrators are now high-quality luxury items. The public’s ideas about vibrators was also improved with the Sex and the City and it’s recognized discussion about Rabbit Vibrators.

Modern vibrators are now made in a range of high quality models, and are now increasingly acceptable for women to use. It is socially acceptable for women to be recognized as having sexual desires and hunger for a release from sexual frustration. Modern technology now means the vibrator now boasts a multitude of powerful vibrational types and pulsation, rechargeable batteries, made from safe and hygenic materials and in a large range of styles, some even using beats from a music player or ipod to control the vibration. Vibrators and Sex toys are now regarded as an everyday part of people’s lives.

Kinky? Not at all!

Posted in General  by avinash pandey

Believe it or not, vibrators have finally come out of the closet and into the mainstream where more and more people are using them or want to know more about them.

If you were of the opinion that using adult toys was just for the very kinky few, think again. Some recent studies carried out in the USA show that the prevalence of women’s vibrator use was found to be 52.5%.

There was also a link found between sexual health and vibrator use with vibrator users significantly more likely to have had a gynecologic exam during the past year and to have performed genital self-examination during the previous month. Vibrator use was also (and significantly) related to many and varied aspects of sexual function (i.e., desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, overall function) with recent vibrator users scoring higher on most sexual function domains, indicating more positive sexual function.

The study showed that overall, the use of vibrators during sexual intercourse is quite common among both men and women and promotes better sexual health. Vibrator use is also linked to less pain, more desire and much richer orgasms with most people who used vibrators on a regular basis not reporting any noticeable or long-lasting side effects.

The widespread popularity of vibrators and other sex toys these days has been attributed greater availability, increasing awareness about sex products, as well as a shift in cultural attitudes. Vibrators are no longer discreetly hidden in bottom drawers or sold in seedy porn shops. They are now hip and happening and attractively packed and stocked by high-end stores and of course online too where shoppers retain complete anonymity when purchasing. For instance, at sites like LovetheRabbit.com visitors can shop in private for the best pink rabbit vibrator and read articles, raves and reviews as well as access links to the stores that stock them.

The who and when of vibrator use breaks down thus; surveys have reported that women use sex toys the most during masturbation and the very least during actual intercourse. Men usually reported using vibrators the most during foreplay or sex play with a partner with very few men using vibrators during masturbation. The biggest reason for vibrator use among men is generally for ‘fun’ or to help a partner achieve orgasm. Studies on the use of realistic vibrators, designed to resemble the penis, have shown that younger women tend to use vibrators more than older women. Most women start using vibrators in their 20s.

Playing hide and seek with your toys

Posted in General  by avinash pandey

So where is yours hidden? Could it be in your knicker drawer? At the very back of the bathroom cabinet? Is it stuffed under sweaters in your wardrobe? Or is it hiding in a sock in your tallboy?

Storing vibrators can be quite tricky. Firstly you’ll want to hide your toy so that it is not accindetally found…by your kids or guests for example – or maybe even by your partner!

Your next priority should be to store your vibrator in such a way that it doesn’t become damaged. This is especially important if your new vibe is going to join other toys of different materials that may (or may not) react well with one another. Vibrators are also motorised objects that contain some metal parts so correct storage of your playmate is important.

Here are a few tips about storing your vibrator:

Don’t store your toys in direct sunlight (as if!) & remove all the batteries so that they don’t rust the metal parts of your vibrator. Leaving the batteries inside your vibrator also wears the batteries down and therefore shortens their life.

Always store your adult toys in a dry place - damp corners such as cupboards under bathroom sinks for instance - can be thriving places for bacteria to grow. In addition to this, the metal battery strips in the vibrator’s ‘tube’ don’t mix well with moisture and can corrode.

Never expose vibrators to excessive heat. This could even cause a combustible situation with your batteries or simply melt the materials.

Store all your ‘toys’ separately - do not throw them all together in the same drawer. The materials of some adult toys can discolour, mark/stain or leave mildewy-looking marks on other ones. In particular, jelly like vibrators and vinyl ones don’t go well together – the jelly appears to ‘melt’. If you keep them all the same drawer, at least make sure that each one is wrapped in its own pouch or container.

Do not keep vibrators where they can collect dust or animal hair, especially so with jelly vibrators that seem to be ‘magnets’ for fluff and airborne particles.

Do store your vibrator and any other toys you might have in a dark and dry place. Some people keep them in a drawer between cotton underwear or other clothing for padding. Keep your vibrator at room temperature; clean your toy thoroughly after each use and remove the batteries.

Store your vibes in a toy bag or pouch or in a special toy box. These storage items are usually satin or velvet or if they’re a box they have some soft material with plush padding on the inside.

If you don’t yet own a vibrator, visit LoveTheMagicWand.com where you’ll find Wand Massager articles, tips and reviews as well as links to the many stores that stock these world best-selling vibrators.

A brief history of vibrators

Posted in General  by avinash pandey

Have you ever looked at something and wondered…”Who invented that? …and why?”

Well, I had one such moment just last week. At a Hen Night a bright green vibrator was being tossed about in a ‘pass the parcel’ type of game and when it landed in my lap among squeals and giggles – I squinted my eyes and thought, “Hummm, I wonder who invented vibrators….and why!”

I have since discovered that the answer to ‘why’ is not as obvious as you might think and it is far more interesting than the ‘who’!

Once upon a time, in 1883 to be precise, the vibrator was first patented as a medical device by a doctor in the UK by the name of Joseph Mortimer Granville. Dr Granville invented this electromechanical contraption to relieve hysteria in women and by all accounts the device was bulky and not easily portable. Hysteria in women was thought to be the result of a lack of sexual intercourse and at the time medical professionals believed that hysteria lead to the inflammation of the uterus, which then “necessitated the expulsion of fluids to prevent it from wandering” from its anatomical ‘home’ and possibly suffocating the woman who ‘housed’ it.

Physicians believed that they had to coax the ‘nomadic’ womb back to its proper place with ‘massage treatments’ and records of hysteria and its ‘manipulation treatments’ date back as far as 2000 BC in Egypt…. so it appears that this mistreatment of women had been going on for quite some centuries.

It appears also that this (mis)treatment was not commonly regarded as sexual and that doing it by hand was a ‘chore’ and tiring work for the medical professional. Not surprisingly then, Dr Granville’s vibrating, motorised contraption was welcomed by many of his colleagues.

The huge potential market for hand-held vibrators as we know them today was first recognised by entrepreneurs with Hamilton Beach of Racine,USA who patented the first hand held vibrator in 1902. The vibrator was the 5th ‘electrical home appliance’ available, after the sewing machine but it came along (please excuse the pun) well before the electric iron and the vacuum cleaner.

In the early 1900s women could use mail order to buy vibrating massagers from advertisements in publications such as Needlecraft and Womens Home Companion. Interestingly, a vibrator advertisement dated from 1910 states: “The secret of the ages has been discovered in vibration. Great scientists tell us that we owe not only our health but even our life strength to this wonderful force. Vibration promotes life and vigour, strength and beauty. … vibrate your body and make it well. You have no right to be sick…”

Nowadays vibrators that were once dubbed “masturbatory machines” for “sexually dysfunctional females”- are being stocked in stores around the world and of course online too. For example, at sites like LoveTheMagicWand.com you’ll find many Hitachi Magic Wand Massager articles, information, raves and reviews and links to the many stores that stock these best-selling vibrators.

Even through the recent recession, sales of vibrator are up 20 percent in the last year. Their use is widespread too, fifty-three percent of U.S. women and nearly half of all men admit having used a vibrator, according to two recent national surveys from Indiana University. So, it would seem that many people still fear that their womb might ‘migrate’ at any moment – therefore, just to be sure…perhaps it’s time you got yourself a vibrator or three too! You really never quite know  when your womb might just up and leave!
